French Art Deco Bronze Dancer By Jean Lormier

Art Deco bronze figure of bobbed haired young woman with arms outstretched holding two doves. Very finely detailed with swirling skirt and graceful movement. She stands on one foot with her arms raised and outstretched and showing her finely detailed bodice and clothing. The bronze is patinated in several colours and stands on a shaped marble base. It is signed to the bronze J Lormier. Little is known about Jean Lormier but it is understood that it may be a pseudonym used by Joe Descomps Cormier.

Art Deco was named after the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts held in Paris in 1925. It was the successor to and a reaction against art nouveau. Seen in furniture, pottery, textiles, jewellery, and glass it was also a notable style of cinema and hotel architecture.
 
Its chief difference from art nouveau is the influence of cubism which gives art deco design generally a more fragmented, geometric character. Ho...
