Victorian furniture encompasses various revival styles popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, characterising heavy proportions, rich woods, and detailed craftsmanship.

Makers frequently utilised solid native and imported timbers such as mahogany, walnut, and oak, often incorporating decorative veneers like flame mahogany for visual depth.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut dovetail joints, secondary timbers on drawer linings, traditional hardware, and natural ageing patterns in the finish.

Pairing dark wood antiques with contemporary neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and simple textiles creates a balanced, sophisticated contrast.

Maintain stable room humidity away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically treat the wood with traditional beeswaxes to nourish the grain.
