FAQs

Early 20th century sketches typically exhibit expressive graphite line work on aged paper, often capturing plein air architectural or natural scenes with a focus on tonal contrast and movement.

Artists during this period primarily utilised graphite pencils, charcoal, or conte crayon on various grades of cream, off-white, or hand-laid cotton paper.

Authenticity is assessed by examining paper degradation, watermarks, ageing of the graphite, ink inscriptions, and framing methods typical of the period.

An antique drawing adds historic depth when framed with conservation-grade materials and displayed alongside contemporary furnishings to create a layered aesthetic.

Preservation requires mounting with acid-free materials, UV-filtering glass, and hanging away from direct sunlight and high humidity environments.
