Equine art has a long tradition in European art history, often commissioned by landowners and breeders to document prize animals, family pets, or racing champions with precise anatomical detail.

Traditional pieces typically utilise stretched canvas or panel supports, oil or pastel pigments, and heavy wooden frames, frequently finished with gesso and gilt or painted details.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the ageing of the canvas or paper, the composition of the pigments, framers marks, artist signatures, and the overall construction and oxidisation of the backing and frame.

Pairing traditional equestrian artwork with contemporary decor creates a balanced focal point, working particularly well when hung against dark or neutral walls to highlight the subject matter.

Preserve paintings by keeping them out of direct sunlight, maintaining stable humidity levels, and cleaning gently with a soft, dry brush without applying water or chemical solvents directly to the surface.
