Stunning Japanese Meiji (Late 19thc) Large Bronze Vase, Takusai Honma

19th century
Description

Beautiful Japanese Meiji (late 19thC) large bronze vase with high-profile mountain and water design by Sado master Takusai Honma. Cast in Honma’s typical ‘purple’ bronze, Signed with a seal. 24.5cm high x 18cm diameter, weight 2.3kg.

Excellent condition and nice patina.

Located on Sado Island, the Takusai Honma family of bronze artists was famous for their work in lost-wax casting and their mastery of patination that produced a sublime, variegated patina. Among the materials used was hanshido bronze, an alloy that resulted in irregular oxidation, giving the appearance of purple to violet spots. Although the art and name of Takusai Honma continued through six generations, the work of the earliest members of the line is considered the best.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
