FAQs

Impressionism is characterised by relatively small, thin yet visible brush strokes, open composition, accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities, and ordinary subject matter.

Paintings from this era typically utilized oil-based pigments applied to stretched linen or cotton canvas, often housed within carved and gilded wooden frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the canvas age, pigment composition, artist signature, stretcher frame construction, and documentation or provenance records.

An antique painting adds historical depth and texture to contemporary spaces, working effectively as a focal point above a mantelpiece or on a neutral wall.

Preservation requires maintaining stable temperature and humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and cleaning gently with a soft, dry brush by a professional conservator.
