Description

A fantastic Georgian period mahogany chest of drawers. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1790-1810 period.

It is of outstanding quality, it is very heavy and well built. It’s a great size with lots of storage space inside the generous drawers. There are lovely brass handles and fine, hand cut dovetailed joints, this sits on beautifully shaped bracket feet.

The mahogany has a gorgeous colour tone and patina, we have just had this re-polished, the condition is great for its age. There are various small marks and indentations beneath the polish, commensurate for age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and a transition from heavy walnut to fine imported timbers like mahogany.

Authentic period pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or oak linings, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction and traditional brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetailing, original backboards, secondary woods such as pine or oak, and signs of genuine age-related wear and patination.

Pairing period wooden furniture with contemporary art or minimalist decor creates a balanced interior that highlights the historical craftsmanship while maintaining modern functionality.

Maintain stable humidity and temperature levels, avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading, and periodically nourish the timber with traditional beeswax to preserve the natural finish.
