Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Scottish Impressionism in landscape painting focuses on capturing light, atmospheric weather conditions, and rural country life through loose, expressive brushwork and rich colour palettes. Artists of this tradition frequently painted outdoors to depict the natural effects of dusk, dawn, and varied cloud cover.

Paintings from this period were predominantly executed using oil-based pigments mixed with linseed oil on stretched linen or cotton canvas. Frames were typically constructed from pine or oak, embellished with molded gesso ornament, and coated in gold leaf gilding.

Authentic period oil paintings show physical evidence of age, such as natural paint craquelure, hand-stretched canvas tensioning, and age-related oxidisation on the wooden stretcher bars. Signatures of recognised artists, along with period-appropriate gesso construction on the frame, further confirm authenticity.

A heavily gilded landscape painting works well as a focal piece positioned above a sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table. Pairing the ornate frame with neutral wall shades or dark wall colours creates dramatic visual contrast while balancing contemporary and classical aesthetics.

Dust the frame and canvas surface very gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to prevent disturbing loose gesso or paint flakes. Avoid applying water, cleaning chemicals, or polished sprays, and keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, dampness, and heat sources.
