Aneroid barometers were invented in the mid-19th century, utilizing a flexible metal box rather than liquid mercury to measure atmospheric pressure, making weather forecasting more accessible and portable.

These instruments typically featured solid timber cases such as oak or mahogany, brass bezels, glass dial covers, and intricate paper or enamel indicator scales.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-carved wooden bezels, age-related patination on the brass and wood, and traditional typography on the dial face.

This piece can be mounted as a focal point on a study wall, hallway, or library to introduce industrial texture and historic maritime character.

Keep the instrument away from direct sunlight and high humidity, clean the wooden casing with a dry cloth, and avoid adjusting the internal mechanism unless handled by a professional horologist.
