Two Figures In A Forest Clearing, Ca 1850, French Romantic Period Oil On Panel Painting

£320    $399    €384
Louis Renaudet, who flourished between 1840 and 1860, was not only a painter but also an architect in Chatellerault, designing buildings for the king, no less. It was perhaps his training in building design that gave the artist the audacity to present scenes from a daring and unusual perspective. The fact that the two women are far from the centre gives us - and them - a sense of direction and a story. They are heading into the depth of the forest and have a long walk ahead of them. There is a lovely sense of narrative and mystery, created through dramatic light, fine detail and the artist''s love for nature which shines through.

Measuring 27 x 22 cm, our oil on board on panel is signed at the lower right. The overall framed size in a more recent frame is 32 x 27 cm.
