Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tallboy, also known as a chest-on-chest, developed in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries to provide expanded vertical storage without increasing the footprint in a room. The design consists of a upper chest mounted onto a slightly larger lower chest, commonly executed in walnut or mahogany during the Georgian era.

Early eighteenth-century tallboys were typically constructed with a softwood frame, such as pine or oak, veneered with figured walnut or burr walnut. Details often included herringbone or feather-banded inlays, cast brass handles, escutcheons, and pine or oak drawer linings with dovetail joinery.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary woods showing natural age, original cast brass hardware or evidence of handle replacement, and hand-cut walnut veneers with characteristic patination and minor shrink cracks consistent with wood movement over time.

An antique walnut tallboy serves as a focal point in a bedroom, dressing room, or grand hallway. Pairing warm walnut grain with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and modern art creates an intentional contrast between historic craft and contemporary aesthetics.

Preserve the finish by keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber movement. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to maintain the natural patina.
