FAQs

Early 20th-century still life paintings often focused on domestic objects and floral arrangements, reflecting academic training and a continued interest in realism before the widespread adoption of modernist abstraction.

Artists during this period frequently utilised oil paints applied to stretched canvas, canvas boards, or wooden panels, often sealed with traditional gesso grounds.

Authentication involves examining canvas ageing, pigment composition, stretcher or board construction, artist signatures, and underlying craquelure using microscopic analysis and UV light.

Pairing historical artworks with modern, minimal frames or contrasting them against clean, neutral walls allows the traditional texture and dark background to act as a focal point.

Maintain stable relative humidity and temperature, keep the artwork out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, and consult a professional conservator for cleaning or varnish removal.
