A banjo barometer is a wheel barometer featuring a curved, multi-bulb wooden case resembling a banjo, popularised during the Georgian and Edwardian periods with characteristic Sheraton-style marquetry and inlay.

These instruments typically feature a dense hardwood case such as mahogany or rosewood, complemented by contrasting lightwood stringing or paterae inlays, a brass bezel, and a silvered metal dial.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-carved details, traditional cabinet-making joints, hand-engraved metal dials, and the type of mercury tube and cistern system appropriate to the early 20th century.

Hanging the instrument on a painted or panelled wall in a hallway, study, or living room allows the warm wood tones and brass accents to function as a focal point among traditional or transitional furnishings.

The wooden case benefits from periodic waxing with high-quality beeswax to nourish the finish, while the glass and brass bezels should be dusted gently with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
