Oil Painting of Work Horses by Margaret Theyre

A very interesting oil on canvas of a farmer returning from the fields at night with his horses by Margaret Theyre 1897-1977. The piece is worked in very thick impasto oils in a post-impressionist manner, I particularly like how the moonlight hits the flanks of the white horses. The painting is signed to the lower left. Margaret Theyre was born in Northamptonshire but spent much of her life in Suffolk. She exhibited prolifically at every major gallery and was also a member of the Women’s International Art Club. This work is in very good condition and has been lined at some point. The painting is framed in a modern very good quality gilt frame. The whole is a great example of this mid-century style and has a captivating presence. C.1940.
