Description

A well modelled and finely cast BRONZE GOAT by the famous “animalier” sculptor: Pierre Jules Mêne. Set upon a rectangular base, strewn with stones and lichen, the alert “billy” goat is depicted climbing up some rocks. Signed to the integral base. 5.25 ins wide (13.5cms).

** Pierre Jules MÊNE (1810-1879) is considered one of the pioneers of the French animal sculptures in the 19th century, casting his models in his own foundry.
