The Tree, The Sea, The Beach 1964: Abstracted Colourist Virtuoso Composition Oil On Canvas

£380    $498    €450
Here is a painting you don't need to understand - you can simply feel the gorgeousness of its colours and its composition.

There is a conifer, and there is blue sky - I also think there is a beach, and a bit of sea in the left hand corner, but that is open to interpretation. More importantly, there is so much LIFE! To me, this is the pictorial equivalent to a virtuoso musician improvising - all the artists skill and technique flow effortlessly to create something beautiful.

Born 1916 in Paris, Jean Edelmann was of Alsatian origin. His father, a doctor, practiced drawing, his mother, passionate about theater, was an excellent pianist. Very gifted in both drawing and mathematics, Jean Edelmann sat the "Grande Ecole" university entrance competion in these two subjects and won the prize in drawing. The war came and he was taken prisoner in 1940. He stayed five years in a camp in Austria, a dark period during which he practiced drawing intensively. On his return from captivity in 1945, Jean Edelmann devoted himself to painting, engraving and book illustration. In parallel with painting, he expressed himself through different materials, notably stained glass and tapestry. From 1952, he exhibited his painting in Paris at the Galerie Cardo in Paris, then regularly at the Galerie Cinq-Mars, at the Galerie Messine, and from 1980 at the Galerie d'Art International. He was also regularly present at art fairs in France and abroad. A unique painter in the 20th century, Jean Edelmann had his own style. Inhabited by his art, he worked in a spirit where poetry and the play of colours were masters.

Measuring 19 x 27 cm and signed at the lower left, the overall size in a simple oak frame is 22.5 x 30.5 cm.
