1 Fine British Sporting Oil Painting Portrait Racing Pigeon Champion Edwins Pride By Andrew Beer.

Subject portrait of a champion racing pigeon named Edwins Pride in full side profile facing left, set in Scottish highlands scene background with tall mountains in the distance and loch, above overcast sky set at sunset.

Set in a new traditional Larson Juhl Florence moulding design decorative gilt frame which has been recently fitted.

Circa mid 20th century.

Signed by the known artist Andrew Beer.

A nice display size with the frame being 50.5 cm wide and 44.5 cm high.

Racing record inscribed as follows Blue Hen. WHW.40 D.205. Winner of 1st Thurso.472 mls 288 yds. 1948 in Dowlais HS.Vel 647 yds. Also 3rd Carlisle. 3rd Edinburgh 1946. 1st Edinburgh. 2nd Lancaster. 1945 3rd Perth. 1942. 1st Lancaster 1941. 1st Chester. 5th W.N.R.Fed.1st Berwick & 8th Open. Bred and raced by Messrs Richards Bros.

Artist biography William Andrew Beer (1862-1954) was an English artist, known for painting racing pigeons, in oil on canvas, under the working name of Andrew Beer. A racing pigeon enthusiast himself, he was a judge at competitive pigeon shows. Beer had a studio in Eastville, Bristol, to which the pigeons he was to paint were sometimes sent by train, arriving at the nearby Stapleton Road Station. He typically painted pigeons at near life-size, singly or in small groups, in side-on view, against similar backgrounds. He often included text, noting the pigeons' names and achievements.

His works are in the collections of Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, Pontypridd Museum and the Radstock, Midsomer Norton & District Museum Society. He also painted scenes of southern England, which were issued as postcards.
