This nineteenth-century Welsh country chest of drawers is constructed from solid honey pine with dovetail joinery and stands on cut bracket feet. The honey pine timber displays a warm golden finish with natural grain variations and darker knots. A shaped low gallery back surmounts the top surface. The configuration consists of two small upper drawers positioned above two full-width graduated lower drawers, all fitted with original turned round wooden pull knobs and individual brass keyhole escutcheons. Chamfered corners flank the front facade, and the side panels are made of solid timber. General surface wear is visible across the wooden surfaces from past usage. Measuring 102 cm high, 97 cm wide, and 49 cm deep, this chest provides functional bedside or freestanding storage for clothing and linens. It suits a bedroom, landing, or hallway in a rustic farmhouse interior scheme, offering generous storage capacity within a compact footprint.

Welsh pine chests from the 19th century typically feature simple, robust utilitarian design crafted from locally sourced softwoods. They frequently incorporate shaped gallery backs, turned wooden knobs, and a two-over-two or two-over-three drawer configuration.

These pieces were built using solid pitch pine or Scots pine, joined with hand-cut dovetail drawer joints and pine backboards. Handles were often hand-turned pine knobs or simple brass drop pulls.

Look for original hand-cut dovetail joints, shrinkage gaps across wide timber planks, hand-sawn back panels, and natural oxidation or honeyed patination within the wood grain.

Position the chest in a bedroom, hallway, or living area alongside neutral textiles like linen and wool to highlight the warm wood tone. Decorate the top surface with ceramic vessels, botanical prints, or framed artwork.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Avoid chemical spray cleaners and position the chest away from direct heat sources to prevent wood shrinkage.
