Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cold-painted bronzes refer to cast metal figures created primarily in Vienna during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Unlike traditional bronzes that receive chemical patinas, these pieces were decorated after casting with multiple layers of unfired oil paint, resulting in vibrant polychrome surface details.

These sculptures were cast in bronze or zinc alloy and finished with lead-based or oil paints applied by hand. Additional structural components, such as spears, swords, or flagpoles, were crafted separately from drawn wire or cast metal before final assembly.

Authentic pieces often bear maker marks, such as the famous urn stamp enclosing a letter B for the Franz Xaver Bergman foundry. Marks may also include cast numbers, country of origin stamps, and distinctive age-appropriate wear to the paint in handled areas.

These detailed sculptures function well as accent pieces in traditional study spaces, libraries, or entryways. Placing them on wooden mantlepieces, desktop surfaces, or within illuminated glass display cabinets highlights their intricate surface decoration.

Dust gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush or clean microfibre cloth. Avoid liquid cleaners, solvents, waxes, or abrasive materials, as unfired paint layers dissolve easily when exposed to moisture or chemicals.
