The carcass of this fine English chest of drawers (Circa 1880s) is predominantly made from straight-grained ash. A popular timber that is known for its strength. and tactile qualities. However, the cabinet maker has gone a step further and decorated the whole surface in Hungarian ash, a beautiful timber that very rarely features in English furniture. This is surprising because the grain has such wonderful movement and colour. Depending on the ambient light, this chest of drawers never looks the same twice, the surface continually shimmers. Now, they could have stopped there and used a standard drawer handle from the period, but no, they have opted to use a highly unusual and contrasting metallic drop handle, which works so well.
