Description

Pair of cast iron urns

* France circa 1890

* Very well cast most likely by Durene(1)

* W: 55cm (21.7") H: 36cm (14.2") D: 55cm (21.7")

(1) Aubin Antoine Durenne (7 July 1822 – 12 July 1895) .

Antoine Durenne was a French sculptor and art founder and cast iron and bronze manufacturer active in France, particularly in Paris, in the mid- to late-19th century. He was born in France in 1822 and was later educated at l’École des arts et metiers in Angers in 1841 and l’École des Beaux-Arts in 1842. In 1847 Durenne purchased a small foundry, near where he lived, at Sommevoire, near the Val d'Osne works, Haute-Marne, France. His firm, of the same name, was active between 1847 and 1930, and is noted especially for its ornamental ironwork and over-life size, iron, and bronze, cast animal sculpture groups, examples of which can be found in several UK historic parks and gardens. Durenne was a founding member of l’École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs. He died in 1895.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
