A Fine Edwardian Oil Painting of a Lady

A fine oil on canvas painting of a lady dating to the Edwardian period. The work shows the figure half-length with her arms folded in a very informal manner. The quality of the piece is very good indeed but it is not signed, this is most likely because it is an art school piece where students would often not sign examination pieces. The canvas is in good order with some very minor repairs as can be seen from the small patches on the reverse which indicate small holes that have been repaired. The work is mounted in a modern frame that has a painted finish which works very well with the portrait picking out the grey tones in the sitter’s dress. The whole is a very enigmatic work with a great presence and is ready to hang. C.1900.
