Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Classical busts gained widespread popularity during the Grand Tour period of the 18th and 19th centuries, when travellers acquired plaster casts of ancient Roman and Greek originals to display in country house libraries and studies as symbols of education and taste.

These busts were cast using multi-piece moulds filled with liquid plaster of Paris, often reinforced with internal hemp fibres or iron armatures, and subsequently painted or bronzed with metallic pigments to imitate patinated metal or stone.

Authentic period plaster busts frequently exhibit faint seam lines from historic moulds, hand-finished detailing around hair and drapery, significant weight, and subtle surface patination or gentle wear to the applied painted finish.

Position the sculpture on a mantelpiece, dark wood console, or within a bookshelf against a contrasting backdrop to create an architectural focal point that grounds the surrounding decorative scheme.

Dust the surface regularly using a dry, soft camel-hair brush or microfibre cloth, keeping the plaster clear of water, solvents, and high humidity, which can compromise the paint layers and soften the gypsum structure.
