Antik Dragon Japanese & Other Fine Art has dated this piece to the 1900s.

Signed in an impressed seal at the rear, Koun Takamura (1852-1934), one of Japan’s most celebrated sculptors and a professor at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Measures 17.5cm tall, 13.5cm wide x 9.5cm deep, weighs 1.65kg.

Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy (Avalokiteshvara), Lord of Compassion, is an extremely popular deity in Japan. Largely due to her efficacy at answering prayers and the many miracles attributed to her, and many temples are named after her.
Beautiful cast and patinated, partially gilded.
