The caduceus is the staff carried by Hermes in Greek mythology and, consequently, by Hermes Trismegistus in Greco-Egyptian mythology. The same staff was carried by other heralds, like Iris, the messenger of Hera. The short staff is entwined by two serpents, sometimes surmounted by wings, as in this instance. These fabulous large brackets in bronze are from around the late 19th or early 20th century. Super quality, one measuring 53cm, the other 54.5cm
