Quality Antique English Sheffield Plated Footed Salver Tray with Family Crest ~ Standing on 3 Substantial Ornate Foliate Scroll Feet
c.1830
The inscription reads ''Marte Suo Tutus'', which translates to: Safe by his own exertions.
I believe this is the family crest for Byers, Byer or Byres.
Condition: Very good antique condition. Some plate wear, mainly to the chased area of the bed around the crest, but it is very even, so still has an attractive look. A little further rubbing to the ornate cast detail of the border edge. No dints, dents or pitting. A few small scratches but nothing that detracts overall and very few considering its age. All the feet are excellent with no resoldering/repairs and the tray stands true with no wobble whatsoever. It has been cleaned with silver polish, has a lovely shine and is ready to use and enjoy.
Impressed to the base with a figural trademark of ''palm of hand'', for J. Watson & Son, Sheffield.
