What is a tall plant display column used for?

These columns elevate indoor plants, urns, and decorative busts above floor level, drawing the eye upward and adding dimension to a room. They work well in corners or empty wall spaces where traditional furniture would block circulation.

How do I choose the right height?

Consider the scale of the object you intend to place on top and the ceiling height of your room. Taller torcheres suit heavier architectural spaces, while lower pedestals balance intimate seating areas. Ensure the top surface area matches the base of your planter or sculpture.

How do I date a wooden column?

Dating relies on timber choice, turning styles, and decorative motifs such as Neoclassical reeding or Edwardian inlaid marquetry. Victorian examples often display heavier carved mahogany, while 1920s pieces frequently feature oak or ebonised finishes. Construction marks and fixings also provide clues to the period of manufacture.
