What are silver vanity table dishes used for?

These items served to organise dressing tables by holding small accessories like rings, pins, and cosmetics safely out of sight. Lidded boxes and jars kept powders and trinkets clean while displaying decorative metalwork and glass. Today, owners utilise them on dressing tables or mantlepieces for practical storage of everyday jewellery and small keepsakes.

How do I identify Edwardian pieces?

Edwardian items date from the reign of King Edward VII between 1901 and 1910, often displaying lighter, graceful styles inspired by the eighteenth century. Look for hallmarks showing the specific year letter alongside maker marks from this decade. Art Nouveau motifs, ribbon bows, and floral garlands commonly appear on silver pieces from this specific period.

How should I clean silver and enamel?

Silver components require gentle polishing with a soft cloth designed for precious metals, taking care to avoid abrasive pastes near enamel or tortoiseshell inserts. Enamel surfaces respond well to a wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap. Keep moisture away from the interior linings and organic materials like tortoiseshell during routine maintenance.
