Where should I place an italian baroque table?

Console variants suit entrance halls or living rooms positioned flat against a wall, often beneath a mirror or painting. Centre tables require open floor space to allow viewing from all sides. Smaller side tables and desks function effectively in studies or bedrooms, providing functional surface area alongside strong decorative presence.

How do I care for antique marble tops?

Clean stone surfaces using a soft cloth dampened with plain water, avoiding acidic or abrasive household cleaners that etch polished marble. Use coasters under glasses to prevent liquid rings from penetrating porous stone. Wax or specialised stone sealers help protect the surface over time without altering the natural appearance of the historic material.

How do I distinguish eighteenth-century pieces from later revivals?

Examine the construction methods underneath and behind the piece, looking for hand-cut joinery, older tool marks, and natural timber shrinkage. Eighteenth-century examples show appropriate wear patterns and organic oxidation on the wood and gesso. Revival pieces made during the nineteenth or twentieth centuries often present machine-sawn elements or standardised hardware while imitating earlier aesthetic vocabulary.

Can these tables support heavy objects?

Solid timber frames with integrated stone tops possess substantial weight and inherent stability for normal household use. However, console tables designed to lean against a wall may require proper wall anchoring for safety. Independent centre tables handle everyday items easily, though care remains necessary when moving heavy pieces to avoid straining historic joinery.
