What are dark wood quartetto tables?

Dark wood quartetto tables are sets of four graduated occasional tables designed to slide neatly beneath one another to save space. They appear in mahogany and rosewood, spanning Regency, Victorian, and Edwardian periods.

How were quartetto tables used?

They served as flexible surface space in drawing rooms and sitting rooms for tea, reading, or writing. Individual tables could be pulled out around a room as needed and stacked away when not in use.

How do I identify a Regency set?

Regency sets frequently utilise rosewood timber and incorporate brass inlay or slender turned supports. Some examples feature integrated chess boards or carry attribution to known makers such as Gillows.

Are all sets made of four tables?

While most quartetto sets comprise four graduated tables, some configurations consist of three pieces. Dimensions scale downward so the smaller tables disappear completely under the largest top.
