Will a standard modern mattress fit these beds?

Many antique frames feature non-standard historical dimensions that differ from contemporary mattress sizes. Buyers often need custom mattress solutions or minor internal adjustments to ensure a proper fit. Checking exact internal length and width measurements before purchase prevents compatibility issues with modern bed bases.

How do I care for antique wood and cane?

Maintain timber surfaces by applying quality beeswax periodically and avoiding direct sunlight to prevent drying. Natural cane requires gentle dusting and occasional light moisture to keep the fibres supple. Keep these beds away from direct heat sources to protect both the wooden joints and delicate upholstery materials.

How do I distinguish Louis XV from Louis XVI?

Louis XV furniture relies on asymmetrical curves, cabriole legs, and elaborate organic carving. The style feels fluid and decorative without strict straight lines. Louis XVI pieces introduce geometric symmetry, straight fluted legs, and neoclassical motifs inspired by classical antiquity.

Are these beds easy to assemble?

Most antique wooden bedsteads utilise traditional knockdown bolt systems rather than modern metal brackets. Assembly requires basic tools and careful alignment of heavy wooden side rails into the headboard and footboard slots. Having an extra pair of hands helps steady the substantial components during the setup process.
