How do I clean a marble base?

Dust the stone regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent grit buildup. Avoid acidic cleaners or harsh chemicals that can etch the polished surface. For stubborn marks, use a damp cloth with mild soap, then dry and buff the marble immediately with a clean flannel cloth.

Are these figures detachable from the marble?

Most sculptures are secured to the marble base by threaded rods or pins running from the feet of the figure down through the stone. Nuts and washers usually hold them fast underneath the plinth. Buyers should leave the assembly intact unless restoration is necessary, as loosening the fixings risks damaging both the metalwork and the brittle edges of the stone.

How do I distinguish bronze from spelter?

Bronze carries a heavier weight and a resonant tone when lightly tapped, whereas spelter feels lighter and softer. Examining the underside often reveals the greyish metal underneath a worn patination on spelter pieces. Bronze also ages with a stable, rich patina, while older spelter can show flaking paint or surface cracking where the alloy meets the air.

Where should I display these sculptures?

Place the sculpture on a stable surface away from direct sunlight and moisture to protect both the metal patina and the polished stone. Low traffic areas prevent accidental knocks against the projecting corners of the marble. Ensure the furniture piece can support the substantial combined weight of the metal figure and the dense stone base.
