Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The canterbury originated in late 18th-century England as a stand for holding sheet music, purportedly named after the Archbishop of Canterbury who commissioned the first design.

Traditional canterburys were typically crafted from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, often featuring turned spindles, brass castors, and sometimes a single drawer at the base.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails in the drawer construction, natural timber ageing, and traditional turnings consistent with 19th-century cabinet making.

An antique canterbury functions well as a decorative magazine holder beside a sofa or as an occasional side table, adding historical character and texture to contemporary living spaces.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it out of direct sunlight, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and cleaning periodically with a soft, dry cloth rather than modern silicone-based polishes.
