This Georgian low boy dates from the eighteenth century, presenting an English country house style. The timber structure carries a black painted finish showing surface wear and minor distress, complemented by panelled drawer fronts and an open central recess beneath the top surface. The apron displays a shaped design echoing the curved cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, while the drawers currently lack handles. Standing 75 cm high, 81 cm wide and 48 cm deep, the table sits compactly in interior spaces. Positioning this piece beside the front door provides a practical surface for daily essentials while introducing period character to an entrance hall. The surface accommodates small decorative items, keys or correspondence, and the slender frame fits well against walls in narrow hallways or transitional spaces. The neutral dark finish adapts to various interior palettes, operating as a functional accent table within traditional or transitional domestic settings.

A lowboy is a small table featuring drawers and elevated legs, introduced in 18th-century England. It was originally designed to serve as a dressing table or side table in residential interiors.

Traditional lowboys were built using British hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or pine, joined with hand-cut dovetails and often finished with polish, paint, or wax.

Authentic pieces display signs of hand-craftsmanship, including uneven dovetail joints, hand-planed timber undersides, natural wear along the base of the legs, and age-related shrinkage in the wood panels.

A painted lowboy functions as a hallway console table beside an entryway, a compact desk in a bedroom, or an occasional side table in a living room.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and keep the item away from direct heat sources and damp environments. Avoid liquid chemical cleaners that can compromise historic paint layers.
