Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Late 19th-century oil paintings frequently displayed a shift towards looser brushwork, naturalistic lighting, and a focus on domestic realism, still lifes, and landscapes.

These works were typically created using oil-based pigments applied to stretched linen or cotton canvas, often housed within moulded and gilded wooden frames.

Authenticity is determined by examining canvas weave, stretcher frame construction, pigment ageing, craquelure patterns, and signature characteristics typical of the period.

Pairing a traditional gilt-framed canvas with contemporary neutral walls creates a striking focal point that balances historic charm with clean modern lines.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity levels, avoid touching the canvas surface, and consult a professional conservator for cleaning.
