An enamel on copper painting by Nella Damsma, dating from the mid-century modern period around 1960, presents a vertical rectangular format within a dark brown wooden frame with simple flat mouldings. The vitreous enamel finish displays a rich copper brown ground with accents of green, red, and white, depicting a figurative harvest scene with three figures in an orchard setting and a signature at the lower edge. The hardwood background provides support for the mounted artwork, which has an overall size of 70 cm high, 20 cm wide, and 2.5 cm deep. This piece works well hung on narrow wall spaces in a living room, hallway, or study where vertical proportions suit compact areas. The construction incorporates clean lines typical of Dutch mid-century design, offering a distinct visual focal point for interior displays without requiring extensive wall space.

FAQs

Enamel on copper artwork is created by fusing powdered vitreous glass to a copper sheet substrate through high-temperature firing in a kiln, forming a durable coloured surface.

These panels consist of a sheet metal copper backing, finely ground glass powders containing mineral oxides for pigmentation, and often a timber surround or frame.

Authentic pieces exhibit a glossy, glass-like finish, slight metallic reflections beneath translucent glazes, counter-enamelling on the reverse to prevent warping, and firing marks along the edges.

Display the panel on a neutral wall to highlight its rich colours, integrate it into a gallery wall, or mount it in narrow architectural spaces alongside mid-century timber furniture.

Dust the surface lightly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid liquid solvents or harsh chemicals, and protect the panel from impact to prevent chipping the vitreous layer.
