Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1890s:
Retailer name Gebr. Caminada Rotterdam on the dial: business active in this era.
Aneroid mechanism visible through the dial: standard mechanical movement of the period.
Original slotted screws securing the backplates: assembly predating modern crossheads.
Thermometer scale on milk glass: dual Celsius and Fahrenheit calibrations.
Crisp relief carving in solid walnut: hand work on naturally patinated timber.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Black Forest aneroid barometer dates from 1890 and is executed in walnut with a warm brown patination. The timber is heavily carved with elaborate rocaile scrolls, leaves, flowers and hanging tassels extending from a shaped cresting down to a scrolled base. A central glass tube thermometer with a white scale sits above a circular brass-rimmed dial featuring the retailer mark for Gebr. Caminada of Rotterdam alongside Dutch weather text. The barometer measures 60 cm high, 27 cm wide and 7 cm deep. Suitable for wall-mounted placement in a hallway, study or living room, this piece serves as both a functional weather instrument and a decorative wall hanging. The mechanism remains complete with its original components, while the rear bears manufacturer initials and an anchor mark.
