FAQs

Georgian watercolours often depicted classical mythologies and pastoral scenes, heavily influenced by the Grand Tour and academic art training of the 18th century.

These works typically utilised hand-ground pigments and ink washes on laid or wove paper, mounted within hand-carved and gilt wooden frames.

Authentication relies on examining paper ageing characteristics such as oxidisation, watermark presence, pigment composition, and frame construction techniques consistent with the period.

Such pieces provide a scholarly focal point when hung against dark neutral wall colours or integrated into a curated gallery wall arrangement.

Conservation requires framing with UV-filtering glass, maintaining stable humidity levels, and avoiding direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading and paper degradation.
