We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Museum viewing benches were traditionally designed for long galleries and exhibition spaces to provide visitors with comfortable, extended seating whilst viewing artworks or artifacts. These pieces often featured substantial proportions and durable upholstery to withstand heavy public use.

These pieces typically utilised a robust hardwood frame, such as mahogany, oak, or beech, paired with traditional horsehair stuffing and coil springs. The upholstery was executed in premium full-grain leather, often secured with deep button tufting and individual brass tacks.

Authenticity is determined by examining the frame construction, timber ageing, hand-stitched leather joins, and traditional stuffing materials like animal hair and hessian webbing. Hand-forged fixings and natural wear patterns consistent with age further validate a piece.

Such a substantial seating item works exceptionally well as a focal point in a spacious hallway, at the foot of a large bed, or as an anchor piece in an expansive living room or study. Its historical texture contrasts effectively against minimalist architecture and modern finishes.

Preservation requires keeping the leather nourished with specialist leather balms or waxes to prevent drying and cracking, whilst avoiding direct sunlight and excessive heat sources. Professional restoration should be sought for any structural repairs or major leather conservation.
