Alabaster portrait busts gained significant popularity during the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly within European academic and neoclassical sculpting traditions, often depicting classical figures or idealized maidens.

These pieces typically combine finely carved translucent alabaster for the head and skin tones with patinated or gilded bronze, brass, or spelter for the garments and base elements.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the natural mineral veining in the stone, tool marks indicative of period carving techniques, artist signatures or foundry marks, and the natural age-related patination of the gilt metals.

A sculptural bust adds classical elegance and vertical interest when displayed on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or dedicated pedestal, serving as a sophisticated focal point in both traditional and contemporary spaces.

Alabaster is a soft and water-soluble stone, so it should be dusted gently with a dry, soft microfiber cloth and kept away from direct sunlight, moisture, and chemical cleaners.
