FAQs

Nineteenth-century European cityscapes typically capture bustling market squares, architectural landmarks, and everyday street life with meticulous detail and a naturalistic palette, reflecting the Romantic and Realist movements of the period.

These works were traditionally executed with ground pigment suspended in drying oils, such as linseed oil, applied to hand-stretched canvas or wooden panels, and housed in hand-carved, gilded wooden frames.

Authenticity is evaluated by examining canvas ageing, craquelure patterns in the paint layer, artist signatures, stretcher frame construction, and the type of pigments used, alongside historical provenance records.

An antique oil painting adds historic depth and warmth when paired with contemporary furnishings, acting as a focal point on a neutral wall or styled within a curated gallery arrangement.

Preservation requires hanging paintings away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, avoiding chemical cleaners on the canvas or frame, and consulting a professional conservator for cleaning.
