FAQs

Regency portraiture typically reflects the early 19th-century aesthetic, focusing on naturalistic expressions, softer colour palettes, and simplified classical clothing styles compared to the heavy formality of the 18th century.

Artists during this period frequently painted using oil-based pigments applied to prepared wooden panels, millboard, or card, housed within intricately carved and gilded gesso frames.

Authentic pieces often exhibit period-appropriate pigment composition, craquelure consistent with age, hand-carved wooden stretcher frames or period gilding, and materials characteristic of the early 1800s.

Antique portraits add a sense of history and depth when contrasted against neutral modern walls, hung at eye level either as a standalone statement piece or integrated into a balanced gallery wall.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, keep the artwork away from direct sunlight to prevent fading, and clean gently with a soft, dry brush without using liquid solvents.
