Snaffles was the pseudonym of Charlie Johnson Payne, a renowned British artist famous for his humorous and evocative watercolours and prints depicting military life, horse racing, and fox hunting.

Original prints by this artist were often hand-coloured lithographs or photogravures on paper, frequently featuring distinctive remarque sketches in the margins and mounted in wooden frames.

Authentic period pieces typically feature the artists signature Snaffles stamp or signature in pencil, hand-applied watercolour highlights, and aged paper within period framing materials.

This type of artwork fits well within traditional, country house, or gentlemans library aesthetics, and can be hung on panelled walls or mixed into a gallery wall arrangement.

To protect against fading and paper degradation, keep framed prints away from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity levels, and ensure conservation-grade framing materials are used.
