Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Chinese table screen rests on a carved hardwood stand with pierced openwork fretwork decoration and curved feet. The dark red wooden frame holds a double-sided silk panel behind glass, depicting a river landscape with a stone architectural bridge and a small boat carrying figures. The framed panel lifts out of the main structure, which measures 43 cm high, 46 cm wide, and 15 cm deep overall. Suitable for a gentleman's library or study, this piece stands well upon a sideboard top or desk where the detailed silk embroidery can be viewed from both sides. The traditional design and dark timber finish integrate easily into classic interior schemes alongside other decorative oriental objects.

FAQs

Historically placed on scholars writing desks, table screens served to protect inkstones from draughts and light while providing a decorative focal point during study and contemplation.

Traditional examples feature a carved hardwood frame, such as rosewood or zitan, housing panels crafted from embroidered silk, painted marble, or carved jade.

Quality is assessed by the fineness and density of the silk threadwork, precision in human and landscape details, and the complexity of the mortise-and-tenon wood joinery.

These decorative objects work well on sideboards, mantlepieces, or study desks, offering visual texture and contrast alongside modern contemporary furnishings.

Display the screen away from direct sunlight to prevent silk fading and UV damage, keep it in a moisture-controlled environment, and dust the carved frame lightly with a soft brush.
