British Impressionism emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, characterised by loose brushwork, en plein air techniques, and a focus on natural light and coastal or rural subject matter.

Traditional pieces typically utilise ground pigments suspended in drying oils such as linseed, applied to stretched woven canvas or wooden panels, often housed in gilded or carved wooden frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining canvas ageing, craquelure patterns in the paint layer, stretcher bar construction, maker marks, artist signatures, and provenance documentation under ultraviolet light.

Pairing historical artworks with contemporary minimalist decor creates a striking focal point, allowing the rich textures and muted colour palettes of the painting to anchor the room.

Preservation requires maintaining stable temperature and humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading, and periodically dusting the surface with a soft, dry brush.
