FAQs

An okimono is a traditional Japanese decorative statue or ornament, typically displayed in a home alcove or on a shelf, which gained significant popularity during the Meiji period.

Meiji period bronzes were typically created using the lost-wax casting method, often utilizing traditional copper alloys with various chemical patinations to achieve deep brown, black, or highlighted tones.

Authentication involves examining the consistency of the casting, the depth and natural wear of the patina, traditional foundry marks or signatures where present, and the weight and construction style characteristic of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

An antique bronze sculpture can be integrated into contemporary spaces by placing it as a focal point on a low-profile console, mantelpiece, or bookshelf, allowing its dark metallic texture to contrast against minimalist backdrops.

Antique bronze should be gently dusted with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding any chemical cleaning agents, polishes, or excessive handling that might strip or damage the historic patina.
