FAQs

Nineteenth-century landscape painting often focused on naturalism, capturing atmospheric light, rural scenes, and the emotional connection between humans and nature, moving away from purely classical compositions.

Artists during this era frequently used prepared hardwood or softwood panels alongside linen canvas, applying layers of oil pigments mixed with traditional linseed oils and natural resins.

Authenticity is determined through examination of craquelure, pigment analysis, wood grain oxidation, framing construction, and often the presence of artist signatures or stamps on the reverse panel.

Antique artworks provide grounding contrast in contemporary spaces; they can be hung on neutral walls with minimalist lighting to highlight the traditional brushwork and texture.

Preservation requires stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, protection from direct sunlight, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on either the painted surface or the wooden panel support.
