FAQs

Mid-20th-century landscape painting often captures regional topography with expressive brushwork, moving away from strict academic realism toward a more atmospheric interpretation of nature.

Artists during this period frequently utilised oil paints applied to stretched canvas, canvas boards, or wooden panels, housed in moulded plaster or gilded wooden frames.

Authentication involves examining the canvas or board ageing, inspecting the medium for proper oxidisation, analysing signature styles, and checking the construction and materials of the accompanying frame.

Pairing a traditional gilt-framed landscape with contemporary minimalist surroundings creates a striking focal point, adding warmth, texture, and historical depth to the room.

Oil paintings should be kept away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperature fluctuations, and gently dusted with a soft, dry brush without using liquid cleaners.
