FAQs

Originating in the 17th and 18th centuries, dressers were initially developed as practical utility furniture in domestic kitchens and dining spaces to store food and display serving platters.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native hardwoods such as oak, featuring traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon, hand-cut dovetails on drawers, and pegged joints.

Authentic period pieces exhibit characteristics such as hand-planed surfaces, irregular timber shrinkage, hand-forged iron or brass hardware, and construction marks consistent with pre-industrial hand tools.

An antique dresser can be grounded in a modern setting by contrasting the dark wood with minimalist neutral walls, styling the plate racks with simple ceramics, or using it as a functional focal point in a dining area.

Preserve antique oak by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically feeding the timber with traditional beeswax to nourish the wood without synthetic buildup.
