Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth century Aesthetic Movement stick and umbrella stand is made of dark brown oak, brass, copper, and zinc. The design includes turned vertical posts, carved floral rosette finials at the top, stepped mouldings, and a central panel with corner bracket details. A horizontal bar with a polished brass central section spans the front between the uprights, while a rectangular zinc drip tray sits at the base above bracket feet. Measuring 96 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 28 cm deep, the stand is solid in structure with visible signs of age to the timber finish, and the drip tray is later painted. Placed beside the front door, it provides practical storage for umbrellas and walking sticks in a hallway or entrance space.

FAQs

Aesthetic Movement hallway furniture from the late 19th century emphasises geometric forms, turned wood elements, and stylised decorative motifs, moving away from heavy Victorian ornamentation towards simpler, refined lines.

Victorian stick stands were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, often incorporating zinc or cast iron drip trays to collect moisture alongside brass or copper retaining rails.

Authentic late Victorian pieces display period-correct joinery, distinct timber grain, removable zinc or iron drip trays, and original brass or copper hardware showing natural oxidisation.

An antique oak stick stand provides practical storage in entryways and hallways, serving as a functional piece to organize walking sticks, umbrellas, or rolled architectural prints.

Apply a natural beeswax polish to the timber regularly to preserve the finish, and ensure the removable metal drip tray is kept clean and dry to protect the surrounding oak frame from water damage.
